Ryu Hyun-jin allowed one hit and no runs in the first inning
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin, who appeared on the mound in his "hangeul uniform," blocked the first inning without a run.
Ryu started in the first game of his third straight home game against the New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium on Monday (Korea time). Ryu, who has emerged as a leading candidate for the National League Cy Young Award after recording 12 wins, three losses and a 1.64 ERA this season, is on the hunt for 13 wins this season against the Yankees.
The first inning was scoreless. The first batter, D.J. Lemayue, got off to a bad start after a left-handed hit. But there was no point. Aaron Judge threw a high fastball to strike out swinging, and Glaver Torres struck out continuously by using a low outside changeup. Follow-up hitter Gary Sanchez cleared the inning lightly, handling it with a second baseman pop fly.
